Kauai Quilt Show 2017-Part 2

As promised, here are some pictures taken at random of the show! Enjoy!

This year, we have storefront windows for display! Sorry for the glare on the glass, but what a lovely presentation! Left to right – all are donations quilts for sale!

Get ready to be dazzled!! 🙂

Pretty awesome, right?! My apologies to the artists whose quilts I missed. Some were sold before I could get a picture!

I hope you enjoy the pictures, but the quilts are so much more vibrant in person! Please visit as soon as you can! The show runs through February 22!

Kauai Quilt Show 2017

The Kauai Quilt Show 2017 will be from February 10-22 at the Kukui Grove Shopping Center, Lihue at the Kauai Society of Artists location. Thank you KSA for allowing us the use of your space.

Here are a few photos from this year’s setup…thanks to all the volunteers!

We are in a new space this year so the layout was carefully planned.

The poles are going up as quilts are being delivered!

Quilts being checked in.

Each quilt is labeled and numbered.

Once labeled, they are ready to hang!

Measuring, lighting is adjusted, hanging & rearranging quilts…busy, busy, busy!

2 of 3 baskets of donation quilts tagged and ready for sale!

Every quilt entered will be displayed…these are waiting for their spot.

I’ll post more pictures tomorrow of the final setup. It came together great and will be an awesome show! We have over 70 quilts and 20+ donation quilts. Various quilts are for sale and there will be Viewer’s Choice awards.

I hope you can attend! Admission is free!

A few more photos from KQS

It will be a few days before I sit the quilt show again so I thought I would share more photos I took during the opening day! Again, these are just random in order.

I have been asked if any of the quilts are for sale. Yes…any quilts that are for sale have a green sticker on the information card like this…

including this one I made…on my right and the Monstera Leaf on my left…

as well as our charity quilts have pink stickers…which SOMEHOW I failed to photograph! I’ll post a photo of those later…if there are any left! Sorry…

Tuesday Tips & Tools for 2016

I found this awesome tip this morning…and voila!…a blog post is born! I have been sharing some blog posts from Aurifil on Tuesdays, but I think I will incorporate a Tuesday tip kind of theme this year! We’ll see how it goes after this post! (Fingers crossed!)

Here is a tip from the APQS blog on marking your quilts…without actually marking your quilts. Check out the post by clicking on the link below to see what I mean!

No-mark quilting

No-mark method for stitching complicated quilting designs

Here is an excellent tool for keeping up with your UFO’s in 2016! Thanks to AllPeopleQuilt.com for the handy form! I like that I can put up to 12 projects on a list to keep up with AND have the gentle kick in the seat of the pants nudge to get them finished! Hell, if you have 20+ projects, just print off (or copy) more forms! I’m thinking of using a list just for other crafty-type projects…(I KNOW I am NOT the only person with more than 12 UFO’s of some sort!!) SMH

UFO Challenge for 2016

Perhaps you are looking for a new project for 2016? How about a Block of the Month (BOM)? Sometimes, letting someone else put a project together for us is VERY helpful in getting a project DONE! Check with your local quilt shop first…nothing is better than buying local and seeing the project up close and in person!

If that isn’t an option, then one of my favorite designers, Lynette Jensen, is hosting a BOM via Craftsy. Click on their link below for details!

Leave a comment and let me know how you like this Tuesday Tips and Tools idea! I hope it gives you some good information and helpful suggestions on making your next quilting project DONE!!

Short & Simple Resolutions for 2016

Once again, we are at the beginning of a new year! Are you excited?! If you are like me, I look back to see if I met my goals for the previous year.

You can go back to my post here for the new year of 2015…it’s a short post so come on back when you finish! I really only had 3 “resolutions” as well as the move to Kauai. Did I succeed on all of them?! Well…of course not! But, we did make it to Hawaii and that, in and of itself, was a huge resolution we can check off the list – DONE!

#1 was “more finishes”…well, I wasn’t able to finish a UFO a month. The main reason? Most of said UFO’s are still in storage in Oklahoma! Ugh! I did finish quite a few tops before we moved and I did make a complete quilt this year and have two more in the works. I better put this on the list again for 2016! 🙂

#2 was “try a new technique or learn a new skill”. I want this one on my list every year! I did this fabric basket but I discovered it’s not my favorite thing by a long shot!

A wonky bowl-like thing

And I made some ornaments that turned out cute!

Cute and fun!

I definitely have a new technique on the 2016 agenda…landscape and/or thread painted quilting. The modern quilts are giving me some inspiration, too! I am really intrigued by these images…

#3 was to “be more consistent with the blog.” I did as many posts as 2014, which was good. But I know I will do better in 2016! I have quite a few things in the works, so as they start happening, I know I will have a hard time NOT sharing that fun stuff!!

So…my resolutions for 2016? I think I will up-cycle the 2015 resolutions…keeping it simple…keeping it real! We have the biggie resolution done, so now it’s time to settle in, hunker down and get busy!

This was a great meme for 2015 so I think I’ll use it again this year!

For now, I’m outa here…we spent our first day of the new year exploring a couple of beach areas. I have some seashells and driftwood to clean up!

And we have new neighbors…they are retiring here from Maryland! Who can blame them, right?! It’s way too cold back there! (That’s a wee dig at our son-in-love…he’s from Maryland, too!)

Lady Luck Strikes Again!

Good Thursday morning to you! Thanks for stopping by!

For #TBT, I send you to this post…remember what I said about entering contests or drawings?! Ok…read on…

If you participated in this year’s Row by Row Experience, you SHOULD have at least finished a row pattern from your closest or most favorite shop so a photo could be submitted for the prize drawing. I only did one row from our little island, Kauai – from Vicky’s Fabrics. I submitted my photo on October 26…whew! just before the deadline of October 31!! Yay, me!!

Row by Row 2015

The shop drew 5 names and mine was one of them!!! Whoohoo!!

Here is my loot prize…!

Door prize from Vicky's Fabrics, Kapaa, HI

A very nice cloth logo bag, 2016 Contemporary Quilts calendar, The Big Book of Patchwork from Judy Hopkins, “All Wrapped Up” pattern from In Between Stiches, and a bundle of 6-1/2 yard cuts including Designer Essential Flora by Free Spirit!

I have a gorgeous quilt to look at each month…

I have some sweet fabrics to make something for a sweet new granddaughter…

Perhaps, the pattern “All Wrapped Up” might be just the right thing! AND a big book of possibilities for future projects! What an awesome prize, right?! Thank you, Vicky’s Fabrics!!

So, again, I repeat…enter those contests, giveaways, and/or drawings…EVERY time you can!

One other bit of luck we are enjoying here in Kauai. The Robert Kaufman ‘Kona Cotton 30 Quilts for 30 Years’ trunk show of quilts is here…AGAIN!! You can see the book of quilts here.

The first group of 10 quilts were at Vicky’s shop this past summer. Here is a few of the quilts I saw…

“Picnic Plaid” by Freshly Pieced

“Cascade” by Stitched in Color and “River Run” by Esch House Quilts

“Tangled” by Rita Hodge and “Parallels: Slingshots” by Empty Bobbin Studios

Now, I am working part-time at Discount Fabric Warehouse and they are the lucky recipients of another group of 10 quilts from the book!!

“Twister Shimmer” by Marilyn Foreman

“Lotus” by Julie Herman

“Solids Soire” by Johnna Masko

Here are some close-ups of the quilting…yep, I get to drool over enjoy looking at these every week!

AND, the last group of 10 quilts will be at Vicky’s Fabrics in February!! Aren’t we the lucky ones?! This collection is amazing and to have all 30 quilts on our little island is a BIG DEAL!

I hope you get lucky to view and enjoy these quilts in person, too!! If you get to visit Kauai in November, pop in and say Hi! I’d love to meet you!
